TeleZüri Goes Tapeless with DVS Technology

TeleZüri, Switzerland's most successful regional TV broadcaster, has upgraded its production chain with a total of six DVS VENICE video servers as well as a DVS-SAN storage solution with 96 TB. In spring 2011, the private broadcaster switched from the previous method of tape based operation to file-based workflows. At the same time, the sports channel Schweizer Sportfernsehen (SSF), which is located at TeleZüri's premises, also uses this technology.

The six VENICE systems provide 22 video channels spread across the entire workflow and are responsible for key broadcasting tasks such as ingest, news play-out and on-air play-out. The DVS video server manages native real-time capturing and play-out of numerous common broadcast formats such as Panasonic DVCPRO®, AVC-Intra, Avid DNxHD® and Sony XDCAM® EX, simultaneously scaling the different formats in real time. Thanks to its wide range of interfaces such as VDCP, MOS and SOAP, VENICE can be controlled effortlessly via Media Asset Management Systems (MAMs), Newsroom Control Systems (NRCSs) and play-out automation systems, thereby meeting the prerequisites for reliable and stable broadcast workflows.

The user-friendly GUI in VENICE also impressed the Zurich-based TV broadcaster: via remote access, users can control the video server anytime and conveniently coordinate server tasks. The extensive playlist features allow broadcasts to be arranged creatively, while the new multi-view user interface enables users to monitor and control multiple server channels at the same time. The DVS-SAN is configured as the central storage and provides TeleZüri with an additional archive connection. Thanks to its 24/7 high-availability operation, the DVS-SAN ensures smooth operation, providing TeleZüri with the greatest possible reliability thanks to its redundant design and failover functionality.
