Apple Motion

Duration: 2 Days
Instructor: Cathy Vogan

Create brilliant titles, transitions, effects and more with Apple Motion, the motion graphics companion to Final Cut Pro, the ideal stand-alone tool for broadcast  and web designers. This two-day, hands-on course starts with motion graphics fundamentals and moves into compositing, key-framing and behaviour-based animation, paint effects, lighting and camera, all within the exciting world of 3D space. We’ll be looking at Motion 4 for FCP 7 users, and Motion 5’s new features for those who use FCP Pro X. Apple Motion has become an industry standard for broadcast title design and is used extensively for the creation of TVCs, promos and music video.

Final Cut Pro users who dream of creating vastly superior title sequences, animations, slow motion, paint effects, animated masking, and multi-layered imagery – all in 3D space - will also appreciate the power, simplicity and speed of Motion. Learn how to design Smart Motion Templates that speed up repetitive tasks. Add Motion’s enormous and easy-to-use library of animation behaviours, image filters, animated fonts, animated paint tools, and its amazing particle and replicator effects to your toolbox. You can even paint with live video!

Experienced and aspiring After Effects users alike, will love Motion’s easy camera controls and behaviours, such as the seamless Point to and Rack Focus which instantly moves the camera position and focus to the object you want. Enjoy Motion's finer control with typography, extensive multi-image alignment tools, motion tracking plusses, large repertoire of built-in expressions for animation and the wide choice of “simulations” which can create complex interactive animation between elements. Learn how to easily generate reflections on other surfaces and the incredibly simple parenting architecture.

Discover how to load your movies into a paint brush or particle system, the REAL TIME environment, and the fact that the Motion project can be incorporated LIVE into an After Effects composition – in other words, you can use the two programs together and enjoy the best of both worlds! One other reason to use Motion with After Effects is that many of the plug-ins you could be using already, such as Stereo Tool Box 3D or Zaxwerks Pro Animator, also work with Apple Motion. Whether you’re an absolute beginner, seasoned editor or practicing graphist, learning Motion will enable you to create stunning 2D and 3D motion graphics quickly. Completion of the course will leave participants with a core understanding of visual effects techniques and practices.
