The Editors on Fire with Da Vinci, Smoke for Mac and Flame Premium

The Editors

The Editors is a collective dedicated to the art and craft of editing based in Newtown, Sydney. Recently they have completed high end TVC’s for clients such as Qantas, Toyota, and Transport NSW.

In 2012 they worked with Digistor to make some big pushes forward in both the operator-end and the back-end of The Editors facility.

The Editors Running the latest Avid Media Composers, Symphony, Da Vinci Resolves, Autodesk Smoke for Mac and Autodesk Flame Premium (Flame Premium consisting of Flame, Smoke Advanced and Lustre) the facility really has the ability to turn any job around explained partner, David Jaeger.

“The front end, that our customers see, when sitting with our editors is only just the surface of what is running at the facility. Our infrastructure is now a well oiled machine, consisting of a fibre SAN running on Digistor’s SANman branded Infortrend Chassis’, Avid MediaNet and a Archiware PreStore Back Up and Archive LTO solution.” David said.

From the minute media arrives at the facility, be it Alexa, R3D or any other of the many varieties on the market now, The Editors have a massive online fibre SAN which can be accessed by the assistants suites in order to add a LUT and render out a MXF to our Avid MediaNet which is also connected to the same Resolve suites.

From there it’s a simple task for the editorial team to apply their craft. From the clients point of view, they don’t need to see any of the back end, they just turn up for their edit and the material is waiting. At the end of the edit it’s a simple task of sending the EDL/XML/AAF back to Da Vinci Resolve to conform the project and do the Grade.

Once the Grade is done the Project and Media is instantly available from the Autodesk Flame Premium suite. The Autodesk Flame Premium is connected to the SAN but also has it’s own Direct Attached SANman branded Infortrend storage. Working in DPXs is quite demanding on storage so you really need to make sure you have the right disk array for the job. From the Flame Premium all finishing and mastering is done and a complete project is dumped back to the SAN were Archiware’s PreStore which archives it to LTO and hopefully the project is at a state of completion.
