June 30, 2011

The Post LoungeThe Post Lounge is a Queensland based post production facility with offices located at Woolloongabba, Brisbane and at the Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast. The Post Lounge is well known for its exceptional post production capabilities and high level of creative standards.

Having been in the industry since 1979, they have undertaken a wide range of post production projects ranging from colour grading to 3D animation and editing. This broad scope of post production means that having a technical resource such as Digistor is invaluable as not only can they recommend the best products but help put the best workflow solutions into practice.

Editing and Creative Finishing

"The CLIPSTER has proved a great asset in terms of getting our media processed in record time. With project timeframes constantly being shortened, this alone makes it a worthwhile investment."Kurt Royan , Head of Post Production

The Post Lounge has produced TVC’s, television series and films, working with a number of high profile advertising agencies such as GPYR and Publicis Mojo. To help realise their client’s vision they have to have the best tools for the job.

Recently The Post Lounge turned to Digistor to help implement a tapeless workflow environment. This was achieved by harnessing the power and flexibility of the latest DVS CLIPSTER release, which enables faster than realtime ingestion of Canon, R3D, Alexa and traditional formats into the offline suite, while maintaining the native raster of the supplied media for colour grading and online.

Not only has this increased productivity for the company, but TPL’s unwavering commitment to maintaining quality throughout their workflow remains uncompromised. “The CLIPSTER has proved a great asset in terms of getting our media processed in record time. With project timeframes constantly being shortened, this alone makes it a worthwhile investment.” said Kurt Royan, Head of Post Production. “Paired with it’s support for new media and range of output formats,
it’s now become an essential tool within our organisation.”

3D Animation and VFX

The Post Lounge makes use of Autodesk Maya as their primary 3D software package. Maya's feature set covers the full spectrum of visual effects, from particle and fluid dynamics all the way to complex character animation, cloth and fur simulations - all rendered on TPL’s 64-bit render farm.

The Post Lounge also recently won Digistor’s competition for a subscription of Autodesk Mudbox, a 3D modeling and texture-painting tool that allows the artist to 'sculpt' even the most minute details into, as well as paint directly onto, the surface of a 3D model.

"We are very keen to experiment with Mudbox and see what new capabilities it can provide for us." said VFX artist, Jan Lynson.

3D camera tracking needs are met by a combination of Autodesk Matchmover and 2D3's BouJou, the two programs providing the flexibility to solve camera shots under almost any circumstance.
