TV1 take on Aspera and Telestream

This year TV1 have updated their workflow to allow for automated digital delivery and desktop editing.

They invested in Aspera Connect – a new age file transportation application together with Telestream Episode Engine. Digistor put together this integrated solution to allow TV1’s suppliers to upload shows from the US whilst it’s the middle of the night here in Australia and then for them to be automatically transcoded. Aspera Connect is used to transfer the media then once the transfer is complete, Telestream’s Episode Engine grabs the file and transcodes  it to TV1’s editorial format ready for when the editors arrive in the morning.

TV1’s Promo team were also looking to speed up production by taking away the “cue up” factor from their edit suites. This has been achieved by moving towards a desktop based editing system. The stand alone edit suites mean promo producers no longer need to book time on the edit suites but they can edit directly at their desk. This has been so efficient it has freed up an edit suite to be used as a dedicated finishing suite using Avid Symphony.

“With the Automation now in place for suppliers to send programs to us and have them actually “ready to edit” when I get to my desk in the morning we can finally have some peace of mind. It also gives us more time in the edit suite to make editorial decisions rather than waiting for files to be FTP’d and hoping we can use them when they arrive.” said John Fischer, TV1’s Senior Editor.
